Northern Spain is simply one of the best surfing spots in Europe, it offers waves for all standards and often the best conditions to be found in Europe in general with offshore and side shore conditions regular and great protected coves with overhanging cliffs providing the most perfect surfing back drop.

When it comes to surfing Northern Spain you will experience a temperate climate and so many surfing options, the question is simply not when is the best time to go but rather where is the best spot to go as surf is like a constant freight train at this destination.

Pure Vacations only features surf spots that are worthy of our brand, we feature the like of Mundaka the world's best left hand river break and the likes of Gary Elkerton, Kelly Slater and Tom Curren enjoy the waves on a regular basis.

The regions best surf starts from Bilbao area and runs along the coast to Zarautz, after that it becomes beach breaks that's are not that great and only offered by other surf travel companies. With Pure Vacations we will ensure you get to the best possible surf along the northern surf beaches of Northern Spain.

As a general rule the breaks on the stretches of northern Spain catch swell very regular and if any swell exists in Europe it will most likely be here during the smaller summer months and that makes this spot a perfect "all year" surf zone with water temperatures between 14C in the winter to 24C in the summer and autumn swells between 18 to 20C ensuring fun surf always. Most learners head to this region during the summer months and early and late autumn when the waves average 4ft and are perfect for practising those early moves, but the big professional and more experienced surfers arrive in the winter, early spring and late autumn when the coastline comes to life with line after line of 6 to 10ft swells offering all types of experiences from barrels to point breaks.

If you are an experienced surfer then a good board to take is a beach break board and then something flexible for smaller days and for those big late autumn days a semi-gun will definitely help you out!

In general the geography is rugged mountainous with a thin strip of land acting as a buffer between the towering peaks and raging bay of Biscay. In these green and very fertile areas of Spain, wide river mouths and large sandy beaches offer excellent breaks peeling along the white sandy bay in front of pristine dunes.

The majority of Europe's best point breaks and beach breaks are located along the area where Pure Vacations have set up its surfing programme, some of these are hidden among Eucalpytus forest and some with plain view of the main towns and villages featured with in our product offering.
