Finnair has announced plans to increase its flights between Heathrow and Helsinki. The flag carrier currently operates four flights per day between London and the Finnish capital, with this set to rise to up to six daily services from 27 October.
Two additional services will depart London at 09:55 and 13:10, arriving in Helsinki at 14:45 and 18:00, respectively.
The London-bound legs will leave Helsinki at 10:55 and 21:25, arriving into Heathrow at 12:10 and 22:40, respectively.
These extra frequencies will also continue into the summer 2025 season.
It is noteworthy that while this represents an increase on Finnair’s current Heathrow-Helsinki services, in January 2020 (shortly before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic), the carrier had announced plans to operate up to eight daily flights on the route that summer. Additionally, the new frequencies will be operated by the airline’s short-haul A320 and A321 aircraft, as opposed to existing flights which are served by Finnair’s long-haul A350 and A330s – which feature in-flight entertainment screens and fully flat beds in business class.
The carrier recently completed a €200 million cabin refresh across its long-haul fleet, which saw the introduction of new business class and premium economy seats, as well as a revamped economy class on eight A330 and 17 A350 aircraft. The carrier stated that the extra frequencies had been timed “to give customers increased choice and flexibility during the peak morning and evening travel periods”, and would offer passengers better connections across the Nordics, Baltics, and beyond to Asia.
Finnair also flies year-round to the UK airports of Edinburgh and Manchester.
Commenting on the news, Anssi Partanen, Finnair’s market director in the UK, said:
“We are incredibly excited to be boosting capacity between London and Helsinki, deepening ties between the UK and Finland.
“London has always been an important city for Finnair and for our customers, so we are thrilled to be announcing this news ahead of the 70th anniversary of the London-Helsinki route in September. These new flights are also timed to give our customers increased choice and flexibility when travelling during the peak morning and evening periods and will facilitate even smoother connections onto our network in Northern Europe and the Far East.”
